The Home Maintenance Program provides services for outdoor and indoor home maintenance. Outdoor services are carried out by independent brokers (members of a community registry) and by students through the SCOPE program. Services include snow shoveling, grass cutting, yard clean-up and
eaves trough and window cleaning.

Indoor services are offered by a direct employee of CCEY known as the handyperson. These services occur inside the home and include installation of smoke detectors and grab bars, safety treads on stairs and window cleaning.

What is Home Maintenance?

For those needing assistance with outdoor odd jobs, our home maintenance coordinator will link you with independent handypersons and/or students.

The handypersons are independent contractors not employees of CCEY.  All handyperson are properly screened and must meet the our service expectations.

Our handypersons are available for all kinds of outdoor jobs like snow shoveling, lawn mowing, repairing fences, trimming hedges and cleaning eaves troughs.

Community Care East York also has a student (SCOPE) Program, where students are 13 - 17 years of age can help you with a variety of outdoor jobs.  For more information on our SCOPE program click here

Community Care East York's Handyperson Program can provide the following:

INDOORS	OUTDOORS
- clogged drains	- cut grass
- washers on taps	- shovel snow
- clean windows	- repair fences
- install and/or remove window air conditioners	- clean and repair eavestroughs
- remove/install storm windows	- dig a new garden bed
- remove/install window blinds	- trim hedges
- clean ceiling fans	- caulking
- install smoke detectors and/or change batteries	- wrap lawn furniture and bushes for the winter
- painting
- replace light fixtures
- change light bulbs
- remove/install drapes, drapery tracks, rods
- hang pictures
- wash walls
- install grab bars
- secure floor boards
- secure carpeting
- minor repairs
- install safety treads on stairs
- assemble items such as: book shelves, TV stands and storage units Outdoors
- install weather-stripping
- caulking

We also employ one handyperson on staff who is available for some indoor maintenance needs. 

Hours: Brokers and SCOPE are available daily upon request. Handyperson is available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00p.m. 24 hours notice is required for cancellation of appointment.

Costs: Recommended rate for brokers is $14 - $16 per hour. Recommended rate for SCOPE (student brokers) $10 per hour. Handyperson $17 per hour. For information on fees for this and other services, please visit our page on How much do services cost?
